Telogen Effluvium

What Is Telogen Effluvium?

Accelerated Shedding

Telogen Effluvium (TE) occurs when there is an an abnormal amount of telogen hairs being shed prematurely, resulting in increased hair loss which becomes noticeable to the individual.

Positively even though people can have Chronic Telogen Effluvium (CTE) total hair loss is not a characteristic of TE and positively follicles are not left permanently damaged.

What Causes It?

There is an array of reasons to which are believed to be causes of Telogen Effluvium.

Ultimately TE occurs when the body’s homeostasis (balance) becomes interrupted.

There can be a singular influence or a multitude of reasons. The bodies reaction to the unbalance can be an accelerated shed which generally presents its self approximately 3-6 months after the event/cause.

Promisingly once the cause is taken away, the body finds a way to cope or a balance is reached then the TE can be rectified and the telogen phase can normalised

Why see a trichologist?

Your Trichologist is professionally trained to discuss with you a list of specific questions to isolate the probable aetiology of Telogen Effluvium.

They will create an effective treatment plan to normalise the shedding and to ensure no other type of hair loss condition is also present.
