What is Psoriasis?

Scalp Psoriasis is a common scalp irritation affecting 1 in 50 people causing itchy scalp and inflamed follicles. It occurs equally in men and women.

Psoriasis can appear at any time of your life suddenly. It is a long-term condition which may come and go but is not curable.

It is not infectious; therefore you cannot catch psoriasis from someone else. It does not scar the scalp but it can cause ‘weathering’ of the hair.

Volume and density can be affected with psoriasis, as the hair itself can find it difficult to push through the hyperplasia (flaking skin).

Why see a Trichologist?

A trichologist will be able to make or confirm a diagnosis of psoriasis, and will be able to give the patient information as to the prognosis of the condition, advice on treatments and what they should expect in the future.
